Professor Alexei Scheludko, Founder of the Bulgarian Scientific School in Colloid and Interface Science
Резюме. The article is dedicated to the 90th birthday of the distinguished Bulgarian physico-chemist the late Professor Alexei Scheludko (1920-1995), founder of the Bulgarian scientific school in colloid and interface science. His life-work and achievements are considered: origin and family, education, scientific career both in the University of Sofia and in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, main scientific topics, international activities, teaching at the university, social activities, etc.
Keywords: Alexei Scheludko, thin liquid films, colloidal electro-optics, heterogeneous nucleation, theory of flotation

Chemical Spirals
Резюме. The paper is devoted to the formation of spiral structures in various physicochemical systems on a meso-scale. The formal analogies in the morphogenesis in living and azoic systems are made explicit. In this context are present results from a modified model of Diffusion-Limited Aggregation (DLA) with two types of particles from which are obtained both spirals and fractals with changing the model rules.

Bridging Research and Teaching: Pre-Service Chemistry Teachers’ Attitudes
Резюме. Linking educational research with teaching practice is a key element in improving the practice of teaching and quality of education. Teachers should be active participants in this process. This survey aims to ascertain the views of pre-service chemistry teachers students at the research application in practice and the reasons for their attitudes. The results show a difference in students’ views. On one side are those with clear, reasoned positive attitude towards the implementing research results, thinking and action into practice, on the other are those with a strong negative attitude towards linking research to teaching practice. Some opportunities to improve the relationship ‘research – practice’ are discussed.

The Economic Demonstrator: Prepare It Once, Use It Many Times. IV. Ni[HgI4] – A Thermochromic Salt
Резюме. Nickel tetraiodomercurate(II) was synthesized in the reaction between nickel(II) perchlorate and aqueous solution of K2[HgI4]. The green crystals appeared to be thermochromic, changing the colour between green (lower temperature) and brownish-black (higher temperature). The crystals were sealed in an ampoule, following the procedure described earlier.

Cost Effective Microscale Gas Generation Apparatus
Резюме. A new method for microscale gas generation is described. The best way of performing this method is as a hands-on experiment. The microscale gas generation apparatus consists of a plastic test tube closed with half-cut pipette bulb and a syringe with a needle. In order to observe the reaction of the generated gas with some reagent, the pipette tubing can be introduced into a second test tube. Using this method, many gases such as carbon dioxide, chlorine, oxygen, hydrogen, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chalogenides, hydrogen cyanide, some hydrides and acetylene can be generated. The proposed method for microscale gas generation is safe, simple, cheap and attractive.

Didactics in Chemistry as an Academic Subject: Doc. Vera Angelova
Резюме. Two periods of the development of the Bulgarian didactics of chemistry exist – (i) as a non-academic subject (in the Kingdom of Bulgaria, 1878-1946) and (ii) as an academic subject (in the Peoples Republic of Bulgaria, 1946-1990). The second period is presented by the complete list of publications of Doc. Dr. Vera Angelova (1915-1999), a remarkable figure of the Bulgarian didactics of chemistry. This bibliography gives an idea about the content, style, peculiarities and value of the publications in the field of chemistry education during the period of question.

Educational Chemistry Software for Secondary Schools
Резюме. An evaluation of educational chemistry software for 9th grade of the secondary school is presented in this paper. Two approaches are applied: a peer evaluation of the developed criterial model and a small student group investigation. Both approachies show that the evaluated software could be successfully used in school practice.
